Dr. Bruce Albrecht is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami. He received a Ph.D. in 1977 from the Dept. of Atmospheric Sciences at Colorado State University. He was a Professor in the Department of Meteorology at Penn State until 1995 and was a Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami until his retirement in 2016.
Dr. Albrecht’s research involves the study of the physics of clouds and precipitation using measurements from research aircraft and specialized radars for remotely sensing clouds. He has authored or co-authored nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications. He received the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal in 1992; the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University in 2006; and is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society.
Dr. Albrecht has been active in undergraduate and graduate education for nearly 40 years and has co-authored the textbook Atmospheric Thermodynamics. He received the American Meteorological Society Teaching Excellence Award in 2013. The hallmark of his teaching atmospheric thermodynamics and atmospheric observations was the use of in-class demonstrations.
